Our Story

The journey to creating The Nia Law Firm didn’t start with a plan to practice law. After earning both my law and business degrees, I set out on a corporate path with a Fortune 5 company, convinced that was where I belonged. Over time, though, I realized that success without purpose feels hollow. I wanted my work to have real meaning — something that made a difference in people’s lives.
That deeper purpose found me after the passing of a close Family Member. They were a trailblazer who held leadership roles in the private sector, served on charity and public service boards, and were deeply respected as a corporate attorney, public servant, friend and Family. Like many, I imagined someone so accomplished in the legal field would have a comprehensive estate plan in place. Unfortunately, the reality was far different.
The plan consisted of a will which left the home and all personal assets to be distributed among seven-plus family members without clear direction how these assets could possibly be divided fairly - with no provision to cover utilities, taxes or the mortgage, nor to hire legal assistance to navigate probate. There was no guardianship designation, no HIPAA release, and no medical directive authorizing anyone to make decisions or receive updates about the Family Member's healthcare.
When the Family Member later developed a serious illness, those missing pieces had heartbreaking consequences. Family members disagreed about how best to care for the Family Member, and after numerous court filings by various family members, the court appointed a perfect stranger as guardian to make financial and healthcare decisions "in the best interest" of our beloved Family Member - with whom the guardian was unfamiliar.
The will designated me as the executor and, upon the Family Member's death, it became my responsibility to manage the distribution or disposition of estate assets. With no funds set aside for legal fees or property costs, I paid well over $20,000 in estate expenses out of pocket — including legal and court fees, utilities, property taxes, repairs, and mortgage payments — while maintaining my own household. Without money to hire an attorney, I had to simultaneously learn and manage the probate process. It was exhausting, expensive, and emotional — yet deeply transformative.
Over the years since, I observed that my experience was far from unique. Similar — and often more difficult — situations have unfolded among prospective and actual clients whose hardships arose because their parent, spouse, sibling, or other loved one failed to adequately plan. Through these experiences, I found my calling and realized that legacy and estate planning isn’t just for the wealthy or the elderly — it’s for every family that wants to preserve harmony, avoid hardship, and ensure their loved ones are cared for when it matters most. That realization continues to reinforce why thorough, thoughtful, and proactive planning truly matters.
That is why at Nia Law, planning is purposeful. I guide clients with compassion and clarity, ensuring every detail — from healthcare decisions to financial stewardship — is addressed and documented. Over time, our work has expanded beyond estate planning to also include real estate, business formation and governance, and legal drafting and analysis to establish and strengthen foundational legacies for future generations.
Through Nia Law, my mission is to make legacy, estate, business, and real estate planning approachable and deeply intentional so business owners, individuals and families can move forward with true peace of mind — confident that their assets and legacy will be thoughtfully protected and shared in a way that fully reflects their values and wishes.
At The Nia Law Firm, “purpose” isn’t just in our name. It’s the guiding principle behind everything we do.
About Me
I hold a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from Howard University, but the way I practice law has been shaped just as much by real-life experience as by formal education.
Over more than a decade in roles such as Senior Counsel, Principal Attorney, Contracts Advisor, and Lead Global Contracts Analyst, I’ve spent my career in the details—drafting and negotiating contracts, guiding estate planning, handling real estate transactions, and supporting business formation and governance. These are now the core services at The Nia Law Firm because they’re the areas where I’ve seen, firsthand, how the right guidance can protect families, relationships, and hard‑earned assets.
Because of that, I am very intentional about how I work with clients. I use a transparent flat‑fee structure, with fees discussed and agreed upon upfront, so you know exactly what you’re getting and never have to worry about surprise invoices or hidden costs. My goal is for you to feel informed, respected, and at ease throughout the process.
That combination of practical experience, personal commitment, and clear, predictable pricing allows me to offer guidance that not only protects your interests and minimizes risk, but also helps you move forward with genuine peace of mind and trust in the process.
